Painfully vague. Woefully paced. Meaningless shots (or are they?…yes, they fucking are).
WHY WAS MONEY SPENT ON THIS? WHY WAS THIS DISTRIBUTED EVERYWHERE?
SOFIA WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? Go back to Tokyo. Please. Don’t try and relive the subtleties of that film, but set in L.A. It didn’t work. Father/daughter relationship that is extremely flawed, set to the backdrop of a Hollywood celebrity life, complete with cameos. What wonderfully, insightful filmic possibilities that holds.
The opening scene. Wow. Just, gah. Overlong, annoying. The first half hour could have been cut from the film and no real impact on the plot or feel would have occurred.
It felt like the best scenes were improvised, and that’s not a compliment. Hardly any dialogue. That’s not always a bad thing but here, with a WALL-E esque silence for ages at the start, but not over something interesting, just boring.
